A tour bus was stuck after it partially fell through a parking garage in New Hyde Park Monday.
Officials said the bus was driving in a parking lot which was over an underground parking garage when a section of the parking lot collapsed, dropping the rear axles below grade.
“It just collapsed — it was like a boom,” parking attendant Ricky Cody told News 12. "So it’s scary. They wouldn’t even have known if they were driving down there.”
Another witness told the television station that the driver was trapped in the suspended front end of the bus until firefighters arrived and rescued them.
Drivers of several cars below the broken parking lot were forced to find other ways home as experts assessed the condition of the asphalt around the bus.
Firefighters work to stabilize the bus and the parking garage.
The driver was uninjured.
